What is Pyrolates?

Pyrolates is an addictive, effective, intense high-energy, total body, muscle-shaking, shirt-drenching small group class incorporating the groundbreaking Lagree Fitness method, performed on the patented Megaformer, created by fitness visionary Sebastien Lagree.

HOW IS LAGREE FITNESS DIFFERENT?

This workout is unlike anything you have ever done: It’s a high-intensity workout with zero impact. This workout delivers results like you have never seen: It strengthens and elongates the muscles without adding bulk, improves endurance, jump-starts the metabolism, burns fat and increases flexibility.

HOW DOES PYROLATES WORK?

Each intense workout is custom designed to produce maximum results. In Pyrolates, we employ the Lagree Fitness signature progressive muscle overload sequencing, uniquely combining strength, cardio, endurance, balance, flexibility and core training in every exercise, working slowly with constant tension on the muscles and transitioning from one exercise to the next quickly, in order to attack the fat burning slow-twitch muscle fibers, leading to muscle failure and producing a pronounced metabolic response, all while maintaining an elevated heart rate and keeping you in the fat burning zone for the entire class! After each Pyrolates workout, the body works overtime to repair – turning you into a 24/7 fat burning machine!

You can expect these results with just 3 Pyrolates classes per week:

HOW CAN I GET THE MOST OUT OF PYROLATES?

The workout is designed to work your body to muscle fatigue, at which point your body only benefits and recovers by resting. Depending on your own personal fitness level and the intensity of your Pyrolates workout, you will need more or less time to recover. We recommend taking class 3-4 times per week to allow your body proper repair and recovery time, but some people become so addicted it’s hard to stop! The key is to listen to your body and find a routine that works for you.

In class, slow down, focus on the muscles working, tighten up your form and commit to a breakthrough – mental or physical – every class. After class, make sure to fuel your body with clean, whole foods and drink water. Add FireBarre or Bike+Barre on your off days to cross-train. Meditate. Be good to yourself!

DO I NEED TO TAKE A PRIVATE LESSON FIRST?

Private sessions are not required to begin working out on the Megaformer. In fact, our Pyrolates classes are specifically designed for a small group setting and most students do just fine stepping into the group class. Because it is like nothing you’ve ever experienced, the first class on the Megaformer is eye-opening but very manageable. This is because our highly trained instructors will modify any exercise to suit your particular fitness level. Trust us, if you stick with it, you will build your strength and competence with every exercise. Make sure to arrive early so that your instructor can walk you through the Megaformer before class. Although a majority of new students thrive in the group class setting, if you have injuries, a medical condition or restriction or just want a little TLC, private sessions can be scheduled anytime when group classes are not in session. Just let us know. We are here to help you.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING AND NOT BRING INTO CLASS?


  • Make sure to bring a towel – or more if you’re planning to shower. We sell small towels in our lobby.
  • Also be sure to bring water – lots of it. We sell bottled water at Firebrand. We also offer a purified water system for you to fill up your reusable bottle. For safety reasons, no glass bottles or jars please!
  • Socks with grips or other soft-soled shoes. No sneakers and no bare feet.
  • Leave your backpack, purse, duffel, coat, shopping bags, etc. outside in a locker. For safety reasons and out of respect for your neighbors in class, we do not permit anything other than you, your water bottle and a towel into the studio. We ask that you utilize the lockers.
  • Leave the strong perfumes and lotions for after class, as some students are allergic.
  • No cell phones, tablets or other PDAs in class. Leave them in a locker or if you are expecting an urgent call at the front desk, where we can get you in an emergency. Treat yourself to 50 minutes of peace!

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR A PYROLATES CLASS?

Arrive about 10-15 minutes before class, in order to stash your stuff in a locker, grab some water and get on the Megaformer. This is especially true if you’re a beginner, need a little more time or have an injury. Class starts on time. Every time. Be considerate to your fellow students. Firebrand reserves the right to close classes after 10 minutes after scheduled start time. Plus we like it when you come early and we can say hello to you before class!

DO MEN GET A KILLER WORKOUT ON THE MEGAFORMER?

Oh do they! Both men and women benefit from Pyrolates, which strips fat, builds lean muscle tissue, chisels the core, challenges the heart, improves flexibility and maximizes the mind-body connection. A huge plus to the Megaformer is that it is built on a system of springs and cables, meaning that students of varying strengths, be it men and women or beginners and advanced students, can perform the same exercises but with resistance levels adjusted to match their abilities. In fact, Men’s Fitness magazine highlighted Firebrand’s Pyrolates workout as the ultimate workout for men when naming Portland its 2014 Fittest City in America!
